Biovex

Founded in 1998, Biovex develops a new class of vaccines for the treatment of cancer and chronic infectious diseases. The company has two proprietary vaccine platforms (OncoVEX and ImmunoVEX), based on genetic manipulation of the herpes simplex virus (HSV). Biovex recently completed a Phase II clinical trial for the treatment of melanoma with its OncoVEX GM-CSF product. The results of this trial showed that the product was capable of inducing a lasting response in a large proportion of the patients treated. The company is currently carrying out Phase III trials for this indication.

In January 2011, Crédit Agricole Private Equity announces Amgen agreement to acquire BioVex for up to US$1 billion.

The company recently sold exclusive rights to its PG-110 antibody to pharmaceutical group Abbott for $ 190M. Developed by PanGenetics, PG-110 is a humanised anti-NGF antibody. It is currently undergoing phase I clinical trials on patients suffering from chronic pain. The clinical development of this antibody programme was carried out with the support of prestigious investors, including Crédit Agricole Private Equity. To date, the company has raised close to € 51M during the three funding rounds completed between 2005 and 2008. This transaction backs up the company’s original strategy focused on the development of proprietary products and licensing new products, without any R&D activities.
